Christmas Citrus Cocktail

This year I decided to strategize for this menu a bit differently and made a large spreadsheet of everything we've made in the past. Since I typically make a wine-based cocktail for the holiday posts I wanted to do something a little different this year. This cocktail is light, refreshing, and paired perfectly with this meal. My grocery store didn't have blood oranges yet but I think that blood orange juice would have added a beautiful color to this cocktail. Also missing at my grocery store was ginger beer which appeared to be sold out! Diet ginger ale did the trick but if you have ginger beer on hand it will add more flavor. I easily doubled this in a shaker and probably could have made three at once. With two ounces of vodka per drink, this is a little strong so you may want to keep the extra ginger ale on hand to help stretch this cocktail a little further if you find it too strong during this first batch.

Pair with: Red Wine Caramelized Onion Goat Cheese Tarts

Recipe from Half Baked Harvest.

Ingredients:
-2 ounces vodka
-1/2 ounce St. Germain
-1/3 cup fresh-squeezed orange juice
-diet ginger ale, for topping
-pomegranate arils, for topping
-1 sprig fresh thyme

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the vodka, elderflower liqueur, and orange juice. Shake to combine and pour into glasses filled with ice. Top with ginger ale. Garnish with the pomegranate and thyme.

  1. I would drink this cocktail with pleasure. Unfortunately, I haven't known about it before. Now, I know that I will definitely cook it.
