Sometimes everyone needs a fast and easy dinner recipe -- this is about to become my go to. This recipe is a nice comforting dish to come home to and it's so easy to make.
From the Art of Comfort Baking.
Ingredients:
-1 bag of frozen cheese filled tortellini (19 or 20 oz)
-1 jar of alfredo sauce (15 oz)
-1/2 jar of marinara sauce
-1/2 cup shredded mozzarella
-1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Preheat the oven to 350. Cook the tortellini according to package directions. Mix with the alfredo and marinara sauce in an 8x8 baking dish. Top with mozzarella and parmesan. Bake for 15 minutes and broil for 5 minutes until the topping is bubbly and golden. Serve immediately.
This was so easy to make! I was so happy about how easy this was to put together, the flavors went great together. If you're having a bad day, but you're not feeling take-out, this might replace mac and cheese as your new favorite comfort food.
I didn't see what temperature to bake it at for the 15 minutes...?
ReplyDelete350. I added it at the top. Thanks for letting us know!
DeleteThanks! I made it tonight. Delish!
DeleteI'm glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteThank you for sharing your recipe. I never thought about mixing the red and white sauces and baking it together. Can't wait to try it!
DeleteEnjoy Sheryl! We frequently saute veggies and add them into the sauce too.
DeleteMaking this right now, long busy day and have my niece over so it seemed like the perfect last minute dinner.
ReplyDeleteLet me know how the recipe went for you! I hope it was the perfect recipe for dinner tonight.
DeleteThanks for stopping by the blog.
Is this somethin I could make now and have my boyfriend just stick in the oven tonight?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteI think that would work just fine! Just do everything up until baking and then stick in the oven later. I think that since it bakes for fifteen and broils for five that even if it's been in the fridge it should heat all the way through.
If you try it, stop back and let me know how you both liked it!
-Alecia
Mmm making it now, but I added shredded chicken, wilted spinach and gnocchi plus used fresh mozzarella. Hoping it turns out great this way!
ReplyDeleteI see now this is specific to vegetarian cooking so the chicken might not be what some people are looking for but the other addition might work well. Oops haha I found this on pinterest and just had to try.
ReplyDeleteMy other blogger, plus my boyfriend, are not actually vegetarian so they might enjoy adding chicken to the recipe!
DeleteThe rest of the variation sounds delicious to me, if you get a chance to stop back please let me know how it went for you! And thank you for joining us from Pinterest.
It turned out great, I think adding onions and some fresh garlic when I cook off the spinach would add the last perfect touch, but it was still amazing!
DeleteI'll keep that in mind next time I make this recipe, thank you for taking the time to comment back to let us know!
DeleteThis would be great with chicken or sausage tortellini :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
DeleteIf you try it with chicken or sausage tortellini let me know, my boyfriend loved it with cheese tortellini, but he would love it even more with sausage tortellini!
im trying with chicken tortellini now
DeleteJust curious as to what kind of alfredo and marinara you use?
ReplyDeleteYou could use any kind, my boyfriend did the shopping for this recipe so I don't remember which brands he bought. I'm guessing he went to Giant Eagle (a local chain store) and bought the store brand of both.
DeleteI'm sure anything you use would be fine :)
Thank you for stopping by to comment, if you make it let me know how it went.
Would it be possible to eliminate the alfredo and just use only marinara or even use spaghetti sauce? My husband and child both HATE alfredo but this sounds so good and easy...
ReplyDeleteYou can leave out the alfredo! It just makes the sauce more cheesy and turns it more orange like you see in the pictures. You can always add more mozzarella or parmesean to make up for it. If you try it, stop back and tell me how it when!
DeleteThanks for commenting.
I HATE alfredo but love this dish. You really can't tell that much, the combo is like a new sauce all together.
DeleteMade this for my husband and I about a month or two ago. It was really good! We needed comfort food at the time, and this worked so well! We would like to add a veggie to it and thought about broccoli. Thoughts on this or other veggies?
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention, we included chicken in ours.
DeleteThanks for stopping back to comment!
DeleteI'm happy that it went well for you, my boyfriend is jealous of all of the recipes that included chicken (I'm a vegetarian, but he's not).
I think roasted peppers would be good in this, any variety of colors. Mushrooms and onions. If you want something crunchy, I think broccoli would be good (it's good in pasta).
I hope that helped!

Can this recipe be made ahead of time, refridgerated then cooked?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by to comment.
DeleteI've never tried to put it in the fridge first, but I don't see why not! It may just need to cook longer since it will be cold. I would bake it for the 15 minutes and then test a tortellini -- if it's still not hot then cook another ten-fifteen minutes (checking again to see if the tortellini is hot) before broiling the dish .
If you try the recipe and get the chance please stop back to let me know how it went!
Made this for dinner lastnight and omg soo yummy. Big hit with everyone. And so quick n easy :)
ReplyDeleteCheryl, thanks for stopping by to let me know how it went. I'm glad everyone enjoyed it!
DeleteThis is a FAVE in our house! Making it again tonight for dinner. LOVE this recipe, thanks for sharing with us :)
ReplyDeleteShonda,
DeleteThank you for stopping back to comment, I'm glad that the recipe has become a favorite.
What size jar of Marinara did you use? The jar I bought was pretty large and half of it seems like it was way too much marinara. It was really tasty anyway, but there was a lot more sauce and it looked a lot pinker than your pictures.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteMy co-blogger and I each made this recipe separately. Both of us think that we used half of a 16 ounce jar of marinara sauce, that seems to be the standard size in our grocery stores. Since you said it looked more pink, I'm guessing the alfredo/marinara proportion was just off.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the recipe otherwise, I hope I helped!
I'm going to try this on a busy weeknight, but with ravioli instead because the kids are picky. Seems like it will taste great either way! Thanks for a great, easy dinner idea.
ReplyDeleteHeidi,
DeleteI'm sure it will be just as delicious with ravioli! Thanks for stopping by to comment.
Is it supposed ti say 19 oz or 9 oz tortellini
ReplyDelete19 or 20 ounces of tortellini, whatever size your grocery store has. That will make an 8x8 pan of the tortellini bake.
DeleteMy roommate made this recipe 4 nights ago but it was so good I had to make it again! I work 2 jobs so having a recipe for something so simple, comforting, and filling is exactly what I needed! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteKathryn,
DeleteThank you for stopping by to comment, I'm glad that you and your roommate enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! I made it tonight and it was a great hit with all who tried it! I used a Garlic Alfredo sauce and Spicy Marinara, which gave the dish a perfect little "kick". Awesome recipe that I will definitely be using again in the near future! This is my new go-to!
ReplyDeleteAshley,
DeleteThat sounds delicious! I am going to pick-up those sauces once my finals are over and remake this. Thank you for stopping by to comment and thank you so much for the fantastic flavor suggestion.
If I'm using fresh, never frozen, tortellini, do I just mix and bake? Thanks...
ReplyDeleteConnie,
DeleteI have never tried to use anything but frozen or dried tortellini.
Fresh tortellini has such a short boil time (3-6 minutes), I would think that if you just mixed and baked it that the small amount of cooking that the tortellini would typically do in the water, it would do in the sauce instead.
If you try it, stop by and let me know how you liked the recipe. Thank you for commenting.
Can you leave out the broiling? If so home much longer should you bake it for?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteYou could leave off the broiling -- that just gives the cheese that browned, pizza-look on top.
I would just bake it for 20-30 minutes until the cheese is completely melted on top. Everything else should be heated through at that point.
Is this something that could be made ahead and frozen?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteI have never tried to make this ahead and then freeze the recipe. If you do, I would suggest making the tortellini and incorporating the sauces, but not adding the cheese before freezing.
The bake time would likely need to be increased to account for the tortellini being frozen.
If you do make this please let me know how it goes!
Yum, such a guilty pleasure, although not so guilty now!
ReplyDeleteHow many servings does this make? Wondering if I need to double it for my family of 5.
ReplyDeleteThis probably makes about six small servings and would be a pretty decent dinner served with a salad and bread.
DeleteIf you want to make sure you'll have leftovers (or if you're feeding teenagers, my brothers will eat quite a bit of this) then doubling the recipe is probably the way to go!
Does bread crumb topping go with this bake? 🤔
ReplyDeleteHello! I think bread crumbs would be fine with this. However, if you choose to broil the cheese/bread crumb topping you would need to keep an eye on it to prevent it from burning.
DeleteCan I put the tortellini in frozen and bake it like that? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Janine. I've always cooked the pasta first!
