Cranberry Molasses Mulled Wine
We made Slow Cooker Mulled Wine a few years ago for the holiday post, so when this recipe popped up on my Instagram I was immediately interested -- I knew it was something we liked and something that would make a big batch.
This used a different blend of spices than I had seen used before, and the addition of molasses to balance all of the spicy/citrusy flavors was something new as well.

Ingredients:
-1/4 cup fresh orange juice
-1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
-2 green cardamom pods
-6 cloves
-6 allspice berries
-10 black peppercorns
-2 cinnamon sticks
-1/4 cup sugar
-1/4 cup molasses
-1 750-ml bottle dry red wine
-1/3 cup cranberry juice
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the orange zest, orange juice, lemon juice, cardamom, cloves, allspice, peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, sugar, molasses, wine, and cranberry juice.
Once the wine begins to simmer, turn the heat to low and stir until the sugar dissolves. Cover and simmer for about 30 minutes, giving the spices time to perfume the wine.
Strain through a mesh sieve, discard the spices, and serve warm. You can garnish with fresh cranberries and an orange slice if you desire.
