Peanut Butter Cup Rice Crispy Treats

Peanut butter and chocolate are some of my favorite dessert flavors. I think that those flavors compliment each other the best. This dessert looks like it has a lot of ingredients, but you probably have most of them in your pantry already. Also, I cut this in half to make an 8x8 pan, but the recipe is left in the original format to be made in a 9x13 pan.

Recipe from Your Cup of Cake.

Ingredients:
1st Layer
-3 cups Crispy Rice cereal
-½ of a 10 oz bag of marshmallows
-2 tablespoons butter, softened
-1/3 cup peanut butter
-½ teaspoon vanilla extract

2nd Layer
-½ cup butter, softenend
-½ cup smooth peanut butter
-½ teaspoon vanilla extract
-1 ½ cup powdered sugar
-1 ¼ cup mini peanut butter cups

3rd Layer
-3 cups Crispy Rice cereal
-½ of a 10 oz bag of marshmallows
-2 tablespoons butter, softened
-1/3 cup peanut butter
-½ teaspoon vanilla extract

4th Layer
-1 cup + 2 tablespoons smooth peanut butter
-2 cups chocolate chips

To make the first layer add the butter, marshmallows and peanut butter to a microwavable bowl.
Once the marshmallows are melted, stir everything together and gently add in the rice crispies.

Press into a greased 8x8 pan.

For the second layer, melt butter and peanut butter in a saucrpan until smooth.
Remove from heat, stir in the powdered sugar and vanilla  until smooth.
Dump the peanut butter fudge over the 1st layer of cereal and spread evenly.

Spread out your mini peanut butter cups and gently press into the fudge layer.
Dave and I were eating these the whole time we were making this recipe, that's probably why we didn't have enough.

Next repeat Layer One and press over the peanut butter cup layer.
To make the Fourth Layer:  Melt peanut butter and chocolate chips in a saucepan until smooth.
Stir constantly, the helps prevent the chocolate from burning.
Let cool slightly and then pour over the top of the Third Layer.

Refrigerate until ready to serve.

This was an incredibly rich dessert -- but it got rave reviews. Dave and I brought this to a family dinner and the leftovers went over well with his roommate's kids. It looks like a lot of ingredients, but they're probably things you have on hand. This is incredibly easy to make. It would be perfect for a bake sale!
