Broncos v. Panthers Cake Balls

If you're still looking for a recipe to bring to a Super Bowl watch party or you simply just want to make an impressive dessert, look no further than this recipe.

I've seen this recipe all over Pinterest and Facebook, but not credited back to a specific person, we didn't follow any particular recipe to put this together, so these are the steps that we followed.

Ingredients:
-1 9x13 cake, prepared according to box directions
-1 cup of cream cheese frosting
-Wilton's candy melts in desired colors*

*I was able to pick-up candy melts in the Broncos and Panthers colors at my local Michael's store, I know party goods stores also carry a wide color variety of candy melts if you're looking for specific colors.

Prepare a cake from boxed cake mix according to package directions and allow the cake to cool. You can use any flavor that you'd like, we stuck with yellow cake mix.

Once the cake has cooled, use your hands to crumb the cake and then mix in 1 cup of cream cheese frosting. Combine the cake crumb and frosting until it's reached a dough like consistency. Take small pieces of the "dough" and roll it into small bite sized balls -- I was able to make 42 cake balls.

Place cake balls in the fridge while you melt the candy melts. You'll want the cake balls to be chilled, so that they won't fall apart when you coat them.

Melt the Wilton's candy melts according to package directions and coat the desired number of cake balls in that color. I used four colors of candy melts and then coated one fourth of my cake balls in each of the colors.

Dave and I each took half of the cake balls to work, they were pretty popular at both our offices. All of mine were gone by the end of lunch on Friday. One co-worker commented that she was pleasantly surprised that they weren't chocolate coated, but rather vanilla (the Wilton's candy melts are vanilla flavored). I liked that they were bite sized, they were sweet enough that I was happy to eat a few without feeling guilty about how much sugar I was eating.
