Matar Paneer

This is another paneer recipe, featuring sweet peas and a delicious spice medley. As before, I made my own paneer, it's pretty easy and fun.

Recipe from The Messy Baker.

Ingredients:
-2 small onions
-2 teaspoons minced garlic
-1 tablespoon powdered ginger
-3 tablespoons finely diced tomatoes
-1 teaspoon cumin
-1 tablespoon garam masala
-1 tablespoon brown sugar
-1 teaspoon cayenne
-1 teaspoon salt
-1 cup paneer
-2 cups peas
-1/2 cup yogurt
-1/2 cup milk

Saute the onions in oil on high. Reduce the heat to medium, then add the garlic and ginger and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add the tomatoes and cumin, and toast for a minute, then add the garam masala, brown sugar, cayenne, and salt, and cook on low for another 3 minutes. Cut the paneer into cubes, then add it to the pan with the peas, yogurt and milk, and cook for 5 minutes.

Serve with rice or naan.

We liked this dish, it was assertive and brought forth many good textures and flavors. The recipe called for tomato paste, and we made do with diced tomatoes. Tomato paste, or more tomato, would have drawn out more color.
