Healthy Mozzarella Sticks

8,000 views! I'm so happy that we celebrated the one year anniversary of Vegetarian & Cooking! this week and 8,000 views all in one week. Thank you for all of the support!

J. and  I both really like mozzarella sticks, but there's no denying that they're not very good for you. This recipe comes from Olive the Ingredients (I love that name!) and although she provided two alternatives, I only tried the baked recipe.

Ingredients:
-12 Wonton Wrappers, at room temperature
-12 Light or Fat-free Mozzarella String Cheese
-Marinara Sauce, for dipping
-Small bowl with water, optional

If you have trouble finding wonton wrappers, look near the tofu in your grocery store.

Cut each mozzarella stick in half.
Fold almost in half, seal this edge with water.

Fold the other edge over seal with water.
As easy as...

Now seal each edge carefully with more water.

You don't want the cheese to come out.

Repeat until you've used all of the mozzarella cheese.
Bake at 400 for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve with marinara.

If I make these again (and I probably will because I have a lot of leftover wonton wrappers) I would do several things differently:

1.) I would seal the edges better, I lost a lot of cheese from some of the mozzarella sticks.
2.) I would also bake them for longer so that they are crispier.
3.) I would try the fried mozzarella sticks, I was going for the super healthy baked version, but if the baked version didn't crisp up when I cooked them for longer, then I would try frying them in some oil.

Overall I think these were a success, it was something different to try and without all of the fried bread they were better than a traditional mozzarella stick.
