Doughnut Grilled Cheese

This is it....the best thing I have ever eaten. If I were guilty of any of the seven deadly sins, it would definitely be gluttony based solely on how much enjoyment I got out of eating this sandwich. One wasn't good enough, I made two for myself. And then I made this multiple more times for other people in my life in order to "test" the recipe to ensure perfection.

You probably think that Grilled Cheese Month has pushed me over the edge and that the creations are getting too crazy. Just trust me on this one.

Recipe from Tastespotting the Blog. (According to this blog, the doughnut grilled cheese originated somewhere in Ohio -- God bless my home state for this amazing creation.)

Ingredients:
-1 tablespoon each olive oil, for frying
-1 glazed doughnut
-1 tablespoon softened butter
-1-2 slices cheddar cheese
Gather some glazed doughnuts.

Slice them all in half.

Build the sandwiches with the glaze side on the inside.
I used one slice of cheese per sandwich.

Heat oil in a skillet and slather butter on the outside of each doughnut.
Cook one to two minutes until the cheese is melted.

Serve immediately.
This is both sweet and savory. The doughnut crisps up to perfection on the outside, the cheese melts perfectly if you use just one slice of cheddar and the glaze that is peeking out caramelizes in the skillet and the rest fuses into the cheese. Grilled cheese Nirvana.
