Apple Dumpling Bake with Mt. Dew Sauce
I have a surplus of apples after going apple picking this weekend and this is one of my favorite apple recipes! It was featured in the Akron Beacon Journal a few years ago during an article on what to do with fall apples.
Ingredients:
-2 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent rolls
-2 medium Jonagold apples, peeled
-1 cup sugar
-1/3 cup butter, softened
-3/4 cup Mountain Dew soda
-Ground cinnamon
-Vanilla ice cream
Jonagold apples were the type that I had on hand, the original recipe calls for Granny Smith -- any baking apple will do.
Peel and core the apples. Cut into 8 slices (per apple). |
One slice per crescent roll. |
Roll up and place in a greased baking pan. Make sure to seal the edges of the dumplings. |
Mix the melted butter with a cup of sugar. |
Sprinkle over the dumplings. |
The secret weapon! |
Pour the Mt. Dew around the dumplings. |
Do not stir! |
Sprinkle with cinnamon. |
Bake for 35-40 minutes at 350. |
Serve warm and a la mode. |
Delicious! The Mt. Dew becomes a syrup around the dumplings and the sugar becomes crunchy. This recipe is delicious and a perfect combination of fall flavors! The dumplings are equally good served a la mode or just by themselves.
Be ready for two more apple recipes this week -- at least one more from me and one from Becky. Here's a few pictures from our apple picking, I'll post more later in the week with the other recipes. .
