Homemade Calzone
I've been looking for a way to use the fresh mozzarella that I have leftover from the Grilled Onion & Red Pepper Sandwich that I made early last week. Then I stumbled upon this lovely looking calzone on Pinterest and decided that a calzone would be a perfectly delicious way to use up the leftover mozzarella cheese.
Ingredients:
-Package of Pizza Dough
-Sauce
-Fresh Mozzarella Cheese
-1 Egg
-Garlic Powder
-Italian Seasoning
Preheat your oven to 375.
Mix dough according to package directions. |
Slice the mozzarella as thin as possible. |
Spread out the dough in a rectangular shape of a foil lined baking sheet. Spread marinara sauce down the center. |
Top with the mozzarella. |
Cut the sides into strips and fold them across the center. |
Once the toppings are covered, brush the top with the egg wash and sprinkle Italian Seasoning and Garlic Powder on top. |
Ready to bake. |
Bake for 20-30 minutes until the top is crispy. |
Slice and serve. |
The calzone was pretty good and it was great to use fresh mozzarella. It's best served as a light lunch or dinner if it's going to be split three ways because overall the portions weren't very filling.
