Cinnamon Applesauce
I have so many apples from apple picking, so I thought I would try applesauce. Here's some pictures from this past weekend:
Ingredients:
-4 apples
-2 tablespoons sugar (or less, to taste)
-1 tablespoon cinnamon
-2 tablespoons water
I used Jonagold an Golden Delicious. Using two different kinds gives it a better flavor. |
Peel the apples |
Core and cut into small pieces |
Add the cinnamon, sugar, and water |
Cover and let cook for 30 minutes. Be sure to stir frequently. Mash the apples as they get soft. |
Serve. This made a lot less than I expected, 4 apples turned into one medium sized bowl, about 2 servings. |
This turned out really sugary. I think the apples were sweet enough on their own that you don't need to use much sugar if any at all. Also, make sure you stir it frequently. The sugar in mine stuck to the bottom of the pan and was really hard to clean out. The flavor was good though, and it was good to eat warm.
**) Side note from Alecia -- my mom recommended adding lemon juice to the apple sauce to keep the apples from browning -- keep that in mind if you'd like traditional looking applesauce.
